Study and Living in Jordan

Jordan is an affordable study and living destination. The state-run higher education institutions in Jordan do not charge tuition fees. Applicants just have to pay the registration fee after they obtain the admission letter.  Private higher education institutions in Jordan charge tuition fees that vary depending on the level and type of study programme. Living expenses in Jordan vary from person to person. On an average, students can expect to at least 660 JOD.

By Air

Royal Jordanian (https://www.rj.com/) is the national airline that runs from Amman to several destinations in the world. There are other airlines also operating direct flights to Jordan. 

By Road and Train 

One can get to Jordan by road. The roadway and rail network, both are well developed. There are many bus services operating to Jordan.

Travelling In and Around by Taxis

Taxis in Jordan are easily available. Private taxis are available all around Jordan, and are relatively cheap. The taxis have meter system and are yellow in colour with green panels in Arabic.
In Jordan, on many inter-city routes operate the shared taxis or service taxis. These are also called as serveeces. Serveece is a white car having the capacity for 7 to 8 people. These are fast and have a slightly higher price.

Getting Around by Buses

Many bus services are running in Jordan. JETT Bus Company (https://www.jett.com.jo/ar/) provides bus service in Jordan. The JETT bus connects the Amman to Petra, Aqaba, Hammamat Ma’een, and the King Hussein Bridge. Bookings must be made in advance. 
Also, there are private buses that operate from Amman to Irbid and Aqaba. The 2 main bus stations in Amman are: Wahdat and Abdali.

Bus fares in Jordan are low. There are minibuses as well running in Jordan. These are mostly 20-seat buses that connect smaller towns in Jordan. 

Student Accommodation

Many higher education institutions in Jordan offer accommodation facilities for students. The costs vary from institution to institution.

Students can also rent a flat apartment. They can stay alone or share with other people. The cost varies depending on the location, number of people and rooms, and the facilities.

Visa Application Process

Students must apply for the visa at their nearest Jordanian embassy/consulate. Fill in the visa application form and submit it along with the following documents: 
  • Acceptance letter issued from the recognized educational institution in Jordan; it must include the course duration and type of course information, 
  • Language proficiency certificate: English or Arabic (depending on the language of the course)
  • Proof of the fees paid in full
  • Proof of enough funds for studying and living in Jordan
  • Proof of medical insurance
  • Educational transcripts
  • Return or onward ticket/documentation
